State Arts Funding Bill Introduced by Assemblymember Nazarian

As you may recall, last year, Assemblyman Adrin Nazarian (46th District) introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 580 which would have appropriated $75 million to the California Arts Council. Unfortunately, AB 580 failed passage, but Assemblymember Nazarian is still an ardent supporter of increased state funding for the arts.

Recently he asked the Assembly Budget Subcommittee #4, State Administration,  to hear testimony from the California Arts Council and advocates on the benefits of additional funding for the Arts and the severe cuts the arts have faced in the last decade.  This Sub-Committee hearing took place on April 8th and was a great success. The testimony really caught the attention of budget committee members.

Now, Assemblymember Nazarian has introduced AB 1676 which appropriates an unspecified amount to the Arts Council.  A hearing on this bill will take place in the Assembly Arts and Entertainment Committee on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 9:00 am in Room 127 in the Capitol, and we encourage all arts supporters to attend or fax letters of support to Assemblymember Ian Calderon, who chairs the committee (916.319.3451) and fax a copy to Assemblymember Nazarian (916.319.2146).
